Effortless Flow | 5 Secrets Nature Reveals

I am always fascinated about nature. It all seems to flow peacefully. Nothing is forced, everything is undergoing a natural process, it is effortless flow. Nothing is rushed, it all just happens. Trees do not try to force growing tall, predators do not try to eat as much prey as possible in one day, as well as herbivores eating the grass. It all happens in a state of flow. Except for humans. We try to control everything we can. We forgot how to live our lives in a state of flow, and we try to force our way through life. We have desires and needs.

But I believe there comes a point where we learn how to flow through life again. Right now, many people are driven by greed, status, power, anxiety or stress. We seek pleasure in materialistic things, that we hope will make us happy. But in a state of flow, you are kind, gentle, joyful and care about people with love. The main reason that we try to force our way through life, instead of flowing, is because the system of our society is designed that way.

The reason we Force

Around the age of four, we are told to learn about math, history, science, languages, up until we are in our twenty's and graduate from high school or college and start to work for the most part of our lives. While it is important to learn new things, we are constantly trained to become useful workers. Right now, the world is designed for efficiency, productivity, metrics and profit. It does not take our wellbeing, spirituality and health in account.

We get pressured by our parents, teachers, friends and family, to behave in a certain way. To graduate from school, get a nice good paying job, a fancy house and car. But none of this makes us truly happy and fulfilled. We force through life, because society's system is designed to make you force through life. But it does not have to be this way. To change this, we need to flow like nature. We need to anchor ourselves in the present moment and feel connected to the world around us again.

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school."

Albert Einstein

Effortless Flow | How to flow again

It takes courage to ignore the people who put pressure on you, and to follow your own path. But the more you live in the present moment, the easier it becomes to stop the hustle and live in alignment with your true nature. The desire for more will start to fade, because you realize that your desires for materialistic things are never fulfilled. Instead, the things that make you fulfilled are your family and friends, doing peaceful activities, creating things that come from the heart and from your unlimited inspiration. You will realize that you do not have to be 'always on'.

You can rest. You can enjoy the silence, walk in nature, appreciate things like a nice cup of coffee or tea, or the sunset. All it takes is to listen to your intuition, your inner voice. To focus on your breath in a quiet room, and feel at ease. To deepen your inner consciousness. You do not have to give up everything right now, you can start by creating more space. Space for your family and friends. Space and stillness for yourself. For activities that you love to do, and always wanted to do, but never did because you were busy living a life you did not want to live.

"Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally."

Eckhart Tolle

Why we try to Force our way through life

It is very simple. everything needs to be experienced, before it can change. Look at industrialization. When people were able to make machines that could replace a thousand workers, we thought that it was amazing. But we learned from this time that it has created the most damage for biodiversity, climate change and nature in general. We experienced it and now we try to change it, because we have become more conscious.

Right now we are trying to be more sustainable. We are not there yet, but change is already happening. The same can be said for social media and our phones. Now we know that it has a big impact on our mental health and relationships, and change is coming. If we did not experience the problems, we would not have the solutions. We can look the same way at work. We appreciate our time and our wellbeing above everything else.

This means that we can change the way we look at work, and do something that is more balanced. But recognizing your true nature will make you flow in the natural state of life again. Everything is messy at first. But everyday you meditate, deepen your consciousness, and increase you awareness, you come back to who you truly are. You will recognize, that you can take all the time you want. You do not have to hurry, you can rest. You can do things you enjoy, whilst working on something meaningful.

"The only source of knowledge is experience."

Albert Einstein

The Simplicity of Flow

The beauty of flow, is that in essence it is really simple. In order to experience flow instead of force. You need to focus on your breath. The breath is the gateway between the external world and your inner world or spirit. Create a quiet space for yourself, one where you are not disturbed and feels peaceful. Focus on your breath, and after some time you will feel a sensation in your body. It might not be very noticeable at first, but the more you practice it, the greater this sensation will be. That sensation is presence.

Presence is not something you can think of. It needs to be experienced and felt. Soon you will feel this presence in more peaceful activities that you do. This is your awakening. The things that mattered to you in the past, like the desire for always wanting more, and earning more, will fade. You will find more joy in simple things, like walking in nature and feeling grounded, drinking coffee with someone you love, doing things because you love the process of doing it, nothing more.

You will be more calm, friendly, loving and in peace with yourself. But give it time. For most of us, this journey develops itself overtime. At first, everything can still seem overwhelming or disappointing. But when you stay true to yourself, and keep practicing flow, beautiful things will happen.

"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished."

Lao Tzu

External things can change

When you practice flow and become more present, you will notice that circumstances can change. Like the four seasons, everything is always in movement. This is called impermanence. Your thoughts also change, just like your relationships, the activities that you do and the places you visit. When you force your way through life, you try to control these things, and do not want them to change. But when you are in a state of flow, you can let go, and embrace these natural changes.

Because deep down, you know that your inner presence, is something that does not change. You can only deepen the sensation of it, and anchor yourself more in that present moment. Then you realize that these natural changes do not really affect you. You become less reactive, and can see the beauty of impermanence in the world. You will start to see that everything unfolds itself before you. You will change your frequency to the rhythm of life, and feel more connected to nature and your own natural state.

Enjoy the Journey, not the Destination

It can be very easy to lose yourself in the thought of a destination. But the problem with that, is that there is always a new destination to look forward to. Instead, see the beauty of the journey. Enjoy your life now. When your desires start to fade, the things you do now bring you more joy and happiness. Everyday is a great day, and it would be a waste to only focus and prepare yourself for the future. Stop planning things you love to do for the future. Do the things you always wanted to do now.

There will never be a perfect moment either. Start building you dream life now. That does not mean that you should stop doing everything you do not like altogether, but simply to take the first small steps. Do the things you are naturally good at, because those things come from a state of flow. Notice which activities give you more energy and clarity. When you do this, every day you will start to love the journey a bit more.

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

Howard Thurman
